External Shading Retrofit Trial
Energy Efficiency Outcomes
The Offer
In collaboration with Energy Efficient Strategies, The Blind Factory is offering you the opportunity to not only be part of an important study being conducted for Sustainability Victoria, but to also receive a subsidy of up to 75% of the cost of your new external blinds.
The subsidy payable is $131 per m2 of external shading, up to a maximum of $1600 per house, for those households selected to participate in the study.
Those who are selected to participate will also receive some feedback on other options for further improving the energy efficiency of their homes.
Background
Sustainability Victoria is a government agency whose objective is to facilitate and promote the more efficient use of resources, including the energy we use in our homes. It is undertaking a study on the impact that installing external shading has on summer comfort and air conditioner energy use in Victorian homes. Energy Efficient Strategies has been contracted to conduct the study and are working in conjunction with The Blind Factory.
The study will assist Sustainability Victoria to develop better information and advice for Victorian households regarding the use of external shading to increase comfort in summer and reduce air conditioner running costs.
Who is eligible?
To be eligible to participate in this study you must be installing a minimum of 6m2 of external shading (high block out) to unshaded west and/or east and/or north facing windows located in an air-conditioned living area of your home. Only households that use refrigerative air conditioners in the rooms to be shaded will be eligible (evaporative air-conditioners will generally not be eligible).
In addition you will need to agree to have professional consultants from Energy Efficient Strategies visit your house on a minimum of 3 occasions over the summer period (at mutually convenient times) to install (and later remove) monitoring equipment and undertake some surveys. You will also need to make available your historical electricity billing data.
What about my Privacy?
All personal information collected during this study will remain confidential. The results of the study will be analysed and published, but only generic information which does not identify the participating households will be used.
How do I nominate to participate?
If you are interested in helping us to better understand how external shading can improve summer comfort and reduce summer air conditioner energy use, please click the link below to register your interest for participation in the study.
Note: This is a limited trial to obtain technical information and not a rebate offer available to all householders. A registration of your interest does not guarantee that you will be selected to participate in this program. Notification of successful participants will be completed by early December 2014.
